WOOL PRICES FIRM
Napier Sale
(flew Zealand Preus Association i NAPIER, Nov. 18.
The market at Napier’s first main wool sale of the season today can be quoted as in sellers’ favour for extra fine and fine crossbreds, while all other qualities and all oddments showed a firming tendency, says the official report.
The first portion of a 46,792 bales offering was submitted before a fully representative bench of buyers. The offering, which was drawn from all Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, East Coast and Taupo districts, consisted mainly of hogget and dry ewe wool.
The clip generally was well grown, with less dust than usual because of the favourable season, but owing to wet conditions prevailing over most of the year water stain was apparent in many of the oddments. Bidding was brisk and well spread, with main competition apparent from the Continent, with good support from Bradford. Competition was keen beween Japan and America on the specialty lines for which a premium was paid.
During the afternoon the Hawke’s Bay Woolbrokers’ combined scoured catalogue was offered to a full bench of buyers. The offering c-roprised 3109 bales and included a proportion of good lots but many of the oddments showed yellow discolouration. Competition was keen and prices were most satisfactory, being, in the main, relative to today’s greasy prices. There was an excellent clearance of the large catalogue and very few lots were passed in.
