AUCKLAND, November 15. A good mile by Lawful distinguished the training at Takanini this morning in preparation for the racing at Te Rapa »n Saturday. It . was about the best that had been run this season and a fine trial for 'i the Foxbridge Plate. Ridden- by N. B. Holland, who will I be on him in next Saturday’* welght-for-age event. Lawful went the distance In Imin 42 2gseec, beating off J Commodore Roberts (Hughes). , which had joined in near the six 1 furlongs. Until the last furlong Commodore 1 Roberts kept.’ with Lawful pretty ; well but he then steadied. Lawful, on the other hand, went right to the finish at a good clip, running the last six furionge in Imin Id | 4>ssec and three In 38 4-ssec. In 4 the finish he led Commodor* Roberta ‘ by two lengths. Widespread Interest The prospect of a hard race between Lawful. Lampada and the , good three-year-old. Blue Lodge, * from Hawera. is causing widespread . interest in the Foxbridge Plate. It * will be dtaappointthg if all three horses do not perform well and i Lawful seems so thoroughly fit that . it will take an exceptional gallop 4 to beat him. Commodore Roberta was impres- ( sive whei running strong]y just ahead of Lawful early, but toward j the end he faded disappointingly. . Except for one occasion, when he . won at Avondale in September, he has not come up to expectations j this season. On Saturday Commodore Roberta ] will try a mile in toe Miller Handl- ] cap, for which Kalamira, Ursalon ( and Dipnoi showed themselves ready ( with solid work on the No. 2 grass today. Dipnoi (Sutherland) was too good
for his. stablemate, Doraboa (N. Campbell), while going five furlongs in Imin 4 3-Sssc, the last two la Zloec. Dipnoi quickly drew sway from Doraboa and in the end he was five or six lengths to the 'good. ■ Dipnoi has been a failure lately Ip middle distances. Probably Saturday's mile course will be more to his liking. If the ground softens be might be very dangerous. . Kalamtra (Hughes) was going well alongside Periled (Rudd), st the finish of five furlongs In Imin •sec, indicating that she had done well since winning st Ellerslie on November 5. _ ’ The stablemates Court Gold (Bdgecumbe) and Ursalon (O’Rourke) strode easily from the mile and put on speed for the last three furlongs In 39 2-ssec. The full course took them Imin 63 3-foec and the last half-mile S2aee. Marengo (Holland) and Nuncio (Dempsey) showed their readiness for the second leg of the doable, the Cambridge Handleap, when they sprinted half a mile in 49 4 saec. the best'Of the .morning. For a big fellow Marengo handles himself particularly ' well over the shorter courses. . For his first start after a winter rest he showed promising speed in 'the Great' NerfiMM Guineas last month. Having, foie proved with his training U* tSe meantime he win very likely last a great deal better in the. finish of the Cambridge Handicap. NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB. NOMINATIONS for the INTERDOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP ONLY close with the undersigned on Friday next, November 18. at 4 pm. D. C. PARKER. Secretary. —Advt.
