(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, November 14. Lester Piggott won the jockeys’ championship in the English flat racing season which ended on .Saturday.' Piggott, aged 25, topped the list for the first time. He rode 170 winners, including St. Paddy In the Derby and St. Leger, and altogether won more than £1954)00 for bls patrons. The Australian, Arthur "Scobie” Breasley, was runner-up. with 153 winners, and Doug. Smith, last year s champion, was third with 144. Piggott, whose weight is about 8-5, is the heaviest champion jockey since the war. . Noel Murless was leading trainer. Sir Victor Sassoon top owner. Aureole the most successful sire, and the Eve Stud leading breeding establishment. All these honour winners were associated with St. Paddy, which won four races worth £71456. Murless trained the winners of 42 races, valued at £118,327, .more than double the sum gained by the run-ner-up. Sam Hall. H Murless was -also leading trainer in 1948. 1957, and 1959, and last year set a record of £145,727. Sir Victor Sassoon, who owns the Eve Stud, won 29 races, worth £90,069, and was a runaway winner of the leading owner honour. Second in the list was an American owner, Mrs Howell Jackson, who won £31,850, with one horse—Never Too Late, winner of the Oaks, and 1000 Guineas. Aureole 10-ye.r-old son of Hyperion. is. top sire for the first time. His progeny won 28 races, worth £90487. Sir Victor Sassoon s Eve Stud had a clear-cut win in the breeding table. Winners of 37 races worth £96,659 were bred there. ,
