WOMEN’S MATCHES

Outright Win To

Mia Moa

The highlight of play in the local women's cricket competitions on Saturday was the sound batting of P. Moore {Technical), who scored the first century of the season, for her team, in its match with Western. Another good score was that of B. Turner (St. Albans A), who scored *52 not out against Beckenham. The only outright victory of the series was scored by Mia Moa, which defeated Teachers* College. Firstinnings wins were taken by Technical against Western and by St. Albans A against Beckenham. Mia Toa v. Teachers' College

The fast attack of the Mia Moa side had little difficulty in dismissing the comparatively inexperienced Teachers' College players for the modest total of 21 in the team's first Innings. L. Todd with seven wickets for .2 and L. Bayliss with two for 14 were the wicket-takers. E. Armitage made 13. It was disappointing to once again see Mia Moa open with its best batswomen, and the team had little difficulty in making 61 for four wickets declared. The College team did slightly better to score 36 in its second innings- M. Healey with 12 was the top scorer. Technical v. Western Western showed good form in its first innings with a total of 99 for nine wickets declared. S. McCaw made a valuable 33, and E. Woods (17) and P. Adair also reached double figures. C. Moore gave a good display of bowling to take three wickets for 11, and E. Johnston with two for seven and T. King, two for 4. took wickets. Technical had little trouble with the Western attack, and totalled 144 for the loss of only three wickets. P. Moore was in fine form, and flayed the bowling for 103 not out. C. Moore completed a good double by scoring 17. For the Western attack honours were shared by E. Woods. P. Adair and L. Smith. St. Albans A v. Beckenham Losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Beckenham started slowly against accurate St. Albans bowling. E. Overend, after giving chances through the slips, was lbw for 17. E. Dickson batted solidly and topscored with 49. R. Black showed little aggression but scored 17 runs and the side closed its innings at 109 for five wickets. C. Randall and K. Wilkinson with two for 23 and two for 15 respectively took the wickets. P. Blackler also aided in keeping down the score with accurate bowling. The St. Albans openers, B. Turner (52 not out) and W. Wilkinson (39), played the bowling well, with Wilkinson in particular putting a lot of power into her shots. Turner hit hard to leg. Eight minutes from full time St. Albans still needed 24 runs for the first-innings win. P. Blackler made a quick 21 before being caught by R. Black, although she was dropped off the first two balls she received. Blackler hit one six and St. Albans reached 115 for four wickets.
