EARLY LAMB EXPORTS
Port Brisbane Shipment
Recently the provincial executive of North Canterbury Federated Fanners recommended to its meat and wool section that it take up with the competent authorities the question of having a ship available in the first week of November next year to take lambs from Canterbury to the United Kingdom. Commenting on this recommendation. the chairman of the Overseas Shinowners’ Committee. Wellington, Mr F W. Spite, said in a statement to "The Press” that, in conjunction with the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board and the Freezing Companies’ Advisory Committee, the Port Brisbane was nominated to shippers on September 26 to load early lamb at Lyttelton between October 27 and November 17. 1960, for shipment direct to London, where the vessel is due about December 17 Space for the equivalent of 130.000 carcases of lamb had been allotted for shipment from Lyttelton. Mr C. J. Ward, managingdirector of Kinsey and Company. Ltd., agenit for the Port Brisbane, said yesterday that the ship was also taking the wool from the sale held in Christchurch this week, and would have to wait a day or two for wool. Her date of departure had been shown as November 17 and that date would be adhered to. It was even hoped that she might sail a little earlier. It was hoped that she would take the 130,000 lambs for which space had been allocated.
