APPEALS FOR MONEY
Young Mothers “Badgered”
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 3.
If the Plunket Society kept badgering young mothers for money they would go elsewhere for the service, a delegate said at the society’s Dominion conference in Auckland today
Before the conference was a remit asking that parents’ participation in the society’s finances be reconsidered in view of the increasing costs of maintaining the high standard of the society’s work.
Another delegate, Mrs L. Farr (Rodney) also made a plea to “leave young mothers alone.” It was hard enough for them to keep up with present day costs “They will always do something to help the society,” she said. “But please do not badger them for money.”
Another delegate, supporting the remit, said it was designed not only to help finances but to foster greater interest in the society among parents. The society Would be a much stronger force in the country if parents—*not only mothers—had more interest in it. The remit was lost.
