RETAIL PRICE OF WHISKY

Reduction Under Discussion

A reduction in the price of a bottle of whisky in hotel bottle stores has been under discussion by the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association.

This was confirmed by Mr K. N. McGillivray, the association’s secretary, yesterday. It is understood that a reduction from 40s a bottle to 36s has been suggested—6d above the present wholesale price of 35s 6d. Apart from confirming that the price reduction had been discussed, Mr McGillivray refused to make any other comment. The president of the association (Mr A. McGregor) was not available for comment yesterday, as he was in Wellington. There would definitely be no reduction in the wholesale price of whisky, either to the general public or to the hotels, said the president of ‘.he Canterbury Wine and Spirit Merchants’ Association (Mr' R. G. F. Kingscote) yesterday.
