Fourth Arrives In Christchurch
A fourth Hercules aircraft for use in the supply of inland Antarctic scientific stations arrived in Christchurch at 2.45 p.m. yesterday, carrying 13 United States Navy and Air Force men and a team of six civilians from the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation’s works in Georgia. Tests will be carried out in the Antarctic to determine the qualities of the ski equipment of these aircraft which are heavier than those used by the Air Force in the Antarctic last summer. When the tests are finished the aircraft will be used for operational work by the Navy’s VX6 squadron. It Is expected to leave for McMurdo Sound within the next four days.
