Competition Forces Market Up (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY, October 25. Exceptional competition at the Sydney Wool Sales yesterday forced the market up nearly 2J per cent, for most descriptions of greasy Merino, according to the official report of the Sydney Woolselling Brokers’ Association. While Japan was the biggest individual buying country, most other major wool-consuming interests also were prominent fin the buying list. For this time of the season it was a remarkable sale, and followed the pattern of yesterday when nearly 100 per cent of the 14,236 bales offered in the main room were sold under the hammer. Crossbred prices.—422 53Jd, 423 55}d, 432 58}d_ Cleans: 104, 102, 100, 98, 420/430. Geelong Sales Compared with Albury, better style Merinos and fine medium and strong crossbreds ruled in sellers’ favour at today’s Geelong wool sale, with average spinners and topmaking Merino and comebacks generally unchanged. ’ The chief buyers were the continent United Kingdom, Japan and locals. Hie feature of the sale was the excellent competition for choice Merino lambs, several lots realising over 120 d.
