INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE
Market Firm On Dunedin (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Oct 25. The market was very firm and inclined in sellers’ favour compared with rates ruling at Dunedin last week, says the official report on the opening sale of the Invercargill wool season held today. The report was issued by the Invercargill Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission. The selection of 22,000 bales comprised well-grown fleece, with a fair proportion of pre-lamb shorn and a small proportion of early shorn fleece. Woolly hoggets were offered in limited quantities and, with the exception of a few lines which brought the best prices of the day, were very mixed in quality and length. The bulk of the clip showed signs of some mud fault as a result of the wet pre-shearing weather. This was most pronounced in oddments. The bulk of the offering was ~kej'l by Continental buyers with Bradford operating on the woolly hoggets. American interests sought the coarser carpet wools and Japan down and down cross types.
The official range of prices was:— Hanse of Prices Southdown, 58/60*s d. d.
