Sixteen traffic notices were issued to offenders. Twenty-three traffic officers were on duty in the Canterbury district for the two-hour period. The senior traffic officer (Mr W. J. Tait) said motorists were well behaved and for the second successive Saturday there were no accidents reported for the period. The 16 offences, six fewer than for the previous Saturday, were: —Exceeding 30 miles an hour in a built-up area (9); travelling at a dangerous speed (1); failing to stop at a' compulsory stop (11; overtaking at an intersection (1). There were four cases where it was thought drivers might have been driving under the influence of drugs or liquor. In one case a driver appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday and in the other three cases the keys were taken. Twenty warnings were issued by traffic officers, 15 for exceeding speed limits, two for not keeping to the left and three for failing to give way. The campaign will continue until the end of October.
