HORSES MISS ACCEPTANCE
Late Arrival Of Telegrams The Riccarton jumper Balance will miss a start altogether this week-end because a telegram making the acceptance for him in the Rimu Hurdles at Trentham on Saturday went astray. Balance had been nominated for the Gore, Trentham and Rangiora meetings. His trainer decided to start him at Trentham and therefore did not accept at either of the other meetings. Mrs Johnstone, wife of Balances' Riccarton trainer, R. E. Johnstone, telephoned a telegram to the Wellington Club on Monday morning but through a misunderstanding it did not arrive in time for the closing of acceptances at 4 p.m. A telegram from Gore for the acceptance of Happy Birthday in the Desert Gold Stakes and Kinsimm in the Awatea Handicap also went astray. It was received by the Wellington Racing Club yesterday morning. Information received from Gore yesterday discloses that the telegram was dispatched by R. J. Cochrane, trainer of the two horses, in plenty of time to have reached Wellington before acceptance time.
