War Pensions
Sir,—To place your editorial on war pensions upon a much more experienced basis, it is necessary to observe that the churlishness of Mr P. G. Connolly is only a continuation of his predecessors ever since the economic was allowed to force down the truly legitimate medical basis in war pensions. Thus we have had a continuous accumulation of anomalies afflicting the amounts of war pensions in a fantastic playing-off of one pension against the- other —celled “equality of sacrifice” one time, and “equality of adjustment” another, both utterly wicked evasions. Thus the’ only adequate reform is that of the long way round, the best for all in the long run. We want the old legitimate medical basis completely re-established under an adequate system of compensation according to certified Yours, etc., R. M. THOMSON. .October 12, 1960.
