Obituary MR EDWIN MILNES

Mr Edwin Milnes, who was closely Connected with the wool trade in Canterbury, died in Christchurch on Thursday. He was 81. Born in England, he came to New Zealand in -1903 and entered a wool buying firm. He later became a buyer on his own account, retiring at the end of the Second World War. Mr Milnes was an active member of the Christchurch Golf Club and the Elmwood Bowling Club. He is survived by his daughter. Mrs A. R. Menzies, of Menzies Bay, Banks Peninsula. mr c. w. McConnell (New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, October 7. A well-known New Zealand bandsman, Mr C. W. McConnell, died at his home yesterday. He was 78. Mr McConnell first conducted the Napier City Band in 1912 and retired in 1934, after having considerable competitive success. During his playing days he was recognised as New Zealand’s outstanding trombonist. Mr McConnell was boro in Port Chalmers, and for many years played with distinction in the North-east Valley Band, Dimedin. During the First World War he conducted the Featherston camp band. -*■
