FOUR-STOREY BUILDING

Plans

Plans for , a new four-storey building at Christ’s College were announced at the annual dinner of the Old Boys’ Association last evening. The building, xwhich will be the highest school building in Christchurch, will include an art room, a geography room, two biology rooms, a press room, a masters’ room and a general purpose room. To make room for the new building the old fives court will be demolished. The president of the association (Mr T. C. Lowry) said the schoo' had reached the maximum number of pupils. Many old boys were now considering sending their sons to other schools and he wanted to know if the Board of Governors had considered moving out into the country to establish boarding schools This would relieve space at the school which might enable more pupils to be accepted. ‘The old boys are entitled to know if the board is taking, a long-term view of the shortage of space at the school,” said Mr Lowry. Replying to the toast of the school. Mr T. W. C. Tothill. who will retire this year after 37 years’ service, said that the old boys had played a great part in the progress of the school. Since, he had been a master, the old boys had contributed more than £250.000 for school purposes These had included the memorial chapeL a new dining hall, a new boarding-house and many other features.
