NEW COLLECTOR OF CUSTOMS

Mr H. A. Hutchinson Retires At Nelson (From Our Own Reporter; NELSON, October 3. After 42 yean in the Customs Department and four years and a half as Collector of Customs and Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Nelson, Mr H. A. Hutchinson has retired from the service. The change over of heads of the department was completed today, when MT W. M. Nelson took up the post of Nelson’s new Collector of Customs. Mr Nelson joined the department in 1928 in Christchurch. In 1950 he was appointed personnel officer of the Customs Department at Wellington. Other appointments in the capital city were as senior examining officer at the wharf office, and then in charge of Sales Tax. He joined the Nelson branch today as its new head. The retiring collector, Mr Hutchinson, joined the department tn 1918 and served at Wellington for 34 years, followed by three years as Assistant Sub-col-lector at Dunedin.
