Age Benefit

Sir, —The allowable income is stated to be £3 weekly, and the impression was given that each pensioner was allowed to earn this amount. This is not so. A single pensioner is allowed to make £3 weekly, but a pensioner with his wife also on the pension is still only allowed to earn £3 weekly. Apparently the idea is that two can live as cheaply as one. This anomaly was never questioned or commented upon during the debate in the House. —Yours, etc., BLENHEIM READER. October 1, 1960.
