Altered Exchange Rates
(The Canadian dollar improved sharply last week, and the Belgian franc was weaker. Other movements were minor. - Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised by the Bank of New South Wales yesterday, are as follows: N.Z, bn— New York: buying, 2.8042 dollars to £NZI (compared with 2.8041 on August 1); selling 2.7725 dollars (2.7724). Montreal: 2.7267 dollars (2.7342); 2.6914 dollars (2.6988). Austria: 72.69 schillings (72.73); 7122 schillings (7125). Belgium: 143.19 francs (252.53); 138.69 francs (133.00). Denmark: 19.59 kroner (19.58); 18.91 kroner (18.90). Norway: 20.25 kroner (same); 19.58 kroner (19.59). Sweden: 14.58 kroner (14.59); 14.25 kroner (same). Switzerland: 12.11 francs (12.10): 11.86 francs (same). Overseas Assets Steady.—Net overseas assets of the N.Z. banking system were unchanged in the week ended July 27. At that date they were £ 114.9 m, which is £ 10.7 m above the comparable 1959 figure. Dennys Lascelles.—Dennys Lascelles. Ltd., woolbroker. Geelong, increased 'its net profit by £48,482. or 46.1 per cent, at £153,306 for the year ended June 30. The increase follows falls of £14.055 ‘ for 1958-59 and £54.837 for 1957-58.
