BARRIER WHALING COMPANY

132 Whales Caught Since May "The Press' Special Service AUCKLAND, August 2. One hundred and thirty-two whales have been caught- by the Barrier Whaling Company, in the last two and a half months. With the northern migration of the whales almost at a close, this year’s total far exceeds the number last year when, in both the northern and the southern migrations, only 75 whales were taken. The 132 whales caught this season have produced about 1100 tons of oil. About 500 tons were shipped from the whaling station earlier in July and 460 tons were pumped into the freighter Gallic, in 10 hours on Saturday. Two whales caught last Friday yielded 23 tons of oil. The biggest whale caught during the season was more than 46 feet long.
