MAN GAOLED FOR ASSAULT
Failed To Pay For Meal In Cafe ’ (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 2. , A 34-year-old porter, Douglas , Holland, was sentenced to one . month’s imprisonment by Mr A. , A. Coates, S.M., today for as- > saulting a 14-year-old girl. He i pleaded guilty. ’ The police prosecutor said Holland entered a cafe in Ponsonby road last night and ordered a ■ meal He went out without pay- * ing and was chased by the girl, ! whose sister had served him. 1 Holland threw a £1 note on ! the pavement and as the girl ■ bent to pick it up he hit her on the ear. As he went away, the ’ girl ran after him and he hit her - again. S Holland told the Court that he t wanted to go out of the cafe and did not have time to pay.
