BROADCASTS OF GAMES
Arrangements By N.Z.B.S. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. Hie Olympic Games would be broadcast for New Zealand listeners by two New Zealand Broadcasting Service officers, the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Boord) announced tonight He said that one of the selectors of the New Zealand Olympic Games team, Mr C. L. C. Cross, who is supervisor of sports broadcasts, would be the service’s commentator in Rome, and would have with him Mr A. R. Lewis as operations officer and producer. By sharing recordings with other Commonwealth broadcasters in Rome, and enlisting the aid of free-lance New Zealand commentators at the games, the two men would be able to follow all New Zealand competitors, and to keep listeners posted of their progress, Mr Boord said. Two reports a day will be sent back “in voice,” one covering day events, and the other evening events. Each would be broadcast by national and commercial stations, one in the breakfast session and the other in the evening. There would also be a results service after the 12.30 p.m. weather forecast each day “Morning and evening broadcasts from our own representatives will be concerned first with New Zealand participants, then with entrants, and lastly with items of general interest. These programmes will provide the opportunity to present interviews with New Zealand competitors and officials, and background stories from the games,” Mr Boord said.
