RADIO STATIONS PLANNED

International Frequency List (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, August 1. A radio station for Gore is apparently planned by the New Zealand Broadcasting Service. The assignment of several stations to operate some time in the future, including one at Gore, another at Queenstown and another at Cromwell, is contained in a frequency list published recently by the International Telecommunications Union in Berne, Switzerland. The N.Z.B.S. in 1958 notified the I.T.U. of its intention to operate these stations, but it is normally many years before such stations are put into service. However, the notification enables Interested parties, in this case Australia, to protest if any infringement in radio frequency assignment is made. The new stations which have been notified to Berne indicate that the N.Z.B.S. plans almost exclusively an extension into the commercial field of broadcasting with “X” class stations which, in the main, have commercial broadcasts. The stations listed are at Napier, Queenstown, Tauramunui, Dunedin, Dannevirke, Ashburton, Blenheim, Oamaru, Gore, Westport, Cromwell. Dunedin is to have a YD station for light entertainment. This would give Dunedin four N.Z.B.S. and one private station, compared with three N.Z.B.S. stations in Christchurch.
