OIL DRILLING AT MANGAONE

Work Continuing Day And Night (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE. August 1. Drilling in the Mangaone valley, where 8.P., Shell and Todd Petroleum Development. Ltd., is searching for oil. is being continued day and night. Mud. stone and sandstone have been encountered and a depth below 2900 ft has been reached. It was said today, however, that there is no particular significance about the gas which has been encountered. Gas was to be expected in this type of country and was normal. Inquiries made today disclosed also that there have been no unusual developments in the quest for oil in the Mangaone valley.
