MECKIFF “NOT A THROWER”
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 30. The test cricketer, C. McDonald, said last night that he thought the Australian fast bowler, I. Meckiff, would go to England with the Australian test team next - year—and that he. would be no-balled. McDonald was speaking at a Ringwood (a Melbourne suburb) Cricket Club function. He said it was absurd to say Meckiff threw the ball. He did, however, bowl “with a hard jerk.” McDonald said that on other tours on which Meckiff had travelled his action had never been suspect to the point where he had been no-balled. Now a gigantic red herring had been introduced and the whole matter had snowballed to a ridiculous extent. He said he was not terribly Impressed by the way the Marylebone Cricket Club had gone about the matter. It had taken the club 15 years to do anything about A. G. R. Lock’s action. McDonald added that the controversy had made Australia’s test players more determined than ever to win when they went to England. County Matches (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, July 30.
