INQUIRIES AT RICCARTON

Interference Charge W. Hanlin, rider of Jimmy Hill, was charged after the Kennels Hack Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday with causing interference to Thumper (B. W. McDonald) about four furlongs and a half from home. The charge was dismissed. Evidence was heard from the riders, the patrol steward, Mr D. Spicer, the stipendiary steward, Mt H. B. Lorigan, and V. D. Clutterbuck, trainer of Jimmy Hill. The committee found the interference was accidental. Vestment Lady was hanging out near the five furlongs in the Camla Hack Handicap. Her rider, A. J. Stokes, said he was forced to check her quickly to avoid the heels of Ops. Dotterel (B. J. Anderton) caused interference to Medbury and Sir Pedro, which both lost ground, when she compounded quickly at the home turn. The incident was accidental. Omaha injured herself before the start when she kicked about in the stall. Ben Ledi, ridden by B. J. Anderton, stopped suddenly at the straight entrance: in the Brabazon Handicap. Anderton said he thought the horse had broken down, but he recovered near the winning post. It seemed the horse struck a nerve. ,
