This had the unbiased East Lon- ( don crowd on Its toes and keeping up a continuous roar of encouragement as first one side then the other < streamed downfield. It is, perhaps, going too far to ; say the score flattered the New Zealanders—on the whole they displayed rather more enterprise—but it is ; worth noting that both teams scored four tries and It was only the lack ! of a good kicker that kept the students’ tally from looking more impressive. New Zealand took a risk in select- , tag two players who could not be' I regarded as match fit—P. F. H. 1 Jones and R- C. Heml—and although both were efficient in their respective specialist roles, line-out jump- . ing and hooking, they were tending . to walk between the rucks towards the end. The AH Black attack in the for- : wards tended to lose its sting at a : critical stage of the game, but the backs were fairly dancing with Impatience to run. Nevertheless there were some glorious momenta—moments such as T. R. Uneen’s 50yd swerving run from his arm goal-line with his sprigs spurting dust inches from the side-line, and, a similar run by W. A. Davies, who entered the back line flat out to take the ball on the blind and beat half a dozen men before unloading and initiating a move from which Uneen scored. The most spectacular effort of all. began with, a little kick ahead by R. J. Conway, who had picked up from a tackle while running cover defence. A couple of backs from each side formed a small nick aa they waited for the ball to land but they split asunder as the fieryheaded Conway swept through them like a red devil, to take his own ban at full tilt and hand to J.
