Doctors said Farrell, aged 28, would not be released from hospital for five days and would not be able
to swim for some time. The Games are in a month. Farrell set United States records in the 100 metres (54-Bsec) and 200 metres (2min 3sec> in the United States national outdoor swimming championships at Toledo. Ohio, last week-end. "This is a terrific blow." said Mr C. Pinkston, director for the Olympic swimming trial*, to be held here next week. "Farrell probably was the best 100-metre man in the world. He also would have been on the 800metre relay, in which four men swim 200 metres each. Without him ■we could lose the relay and four more gold medals,” he said.
