APPEAL FAILS

Oamaru Platings Not Altered (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 28. The appeal of Mr A. M. A. Engelbrecht against the decision of the judicial committee of the Oamaru Jockey Club in placing Peak Effort first in the Trial Handicap at the club’s winter meeting last month was dismissed by the Dunedin district committee today. Mr Engelbrecht lodged the appeal as the owner of the second horse, Chow Ming, which was raced on lease by Mr J. P. Mathieson. He was represented by Mr J. G. Leggat, of Christchurch. At an inquiry into alleged interference, the Oamaru Jockey Club allowed the placings to stand, but fined S. J. Diack, the rider of Peak Effort, £lO for careless riding. D. J McDonald, the Wingatui owner-trainer of Peak Effort, was represented by Mr J. C. Robertson, of Dunedin. ’ . Chow Ming has since been destroyed after an injury received during the running of the Waihao Hack Handicap at Waimate this month.
