Waikato Club To Take Entries “The Press” Special Service MATAMATA, July 27. The Waikato Racing Club has received news from Australia that major clubs there will ask it to take nominations for their important events in future. In the past these have been taken by the Auckland. Wellington. Canterbury and Dunedin clubs. a , This year the biggest single contingent of New Zealand horses entered for major spring events came from Waikato stables, but these entries had to be made through Auckland, with resulting inconvenience to Waikato owners and trainers and the staff of the Auckland Racing Club. Mr W. N. Mackie got In touch with major clubs in Australia and already the controlling bodies of the AJ.C. and Queensland Turf Club have asked the Waikato Racing Club secretary. Mrs M. V. Skelton, to act on their behalf. A leading Melbourne journalist wrote to a Matamata man this week and said that he had spoken to Sir Chester Manifold, the vJLC. chairman, and other officials, and he firmly believes that they will take similar action before the entries close for the next cup.
