Paparua Rubbish
Sir, —May I draw the attention of the Paparua County Council to the very out-of-date truck being used in the district’s rubbish collection? I feel that the workers on this very unpleasant and necessary service should be given the advantage of a modern rubbish truck such as the Waimalri County Council has provided. The beautiful building not long completed has made things very cosy for the office staff. Let the ratepayers of Paparua see that the humble council worker is worthy of some consideration, also. A modem rubbish collection truck would prevent papers and dust flying all over the roads on windy days. —Yours, etc., J. H. SMALLEY. Hornby, July 8, 1960. [The chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr J. H. Weaver) comments: “It is only during the last 12 months or sb that the council staff has operated the rubbish collection service, which was previously let by contract, but I can assure your correspondent that the council recognises the importance of the work of the men concerned, who do receive some concessions. Mr Smalley’s interest, as a county ratepayer, in the welfare of the council staff is appreciated and I am r pleased to inform him that the provision of a more modern type of rubbish collection vehicle has been under consideration by the council for some time.’’]
