SHIPPING LINES CONTRACT

Cargo Rates May Be Increased (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, July 28. An announcement whether Conference Lines and the New Zealand producer boards have agreed to a new contract is expected shortly. If the Australian trend is a pointer there may be an increase. The Australian Outward Conference Lines have announced a 7.5 per cent rise tor rates to Australia from October 1. This came after a statement that the rate on refrigerator cargo from Australia will increase from October 1 by around 7.5 per cent. The average rise of general cargo, including wool, is about 6 per cent. It is a fair speculation that the New Zealand lines are seeking similar increases.
