CO-ORDINATION OF RESEARCH
National Body Suggested (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 28. The maximum efficiency and co-ordination in Governmentfunded research would be achieved by the establishment of a national research organisation to replace the D.S.I.R. as an independent body responsible for the main research functions of the Government Such an organisation should ne a corporate body employing its own staff and should submit an annual report to Parliament and receive an annual appropriation of funds. This was suggested by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in the annual report of the D.S.IJL tabled in the House of Representives. The council considered that a national research organisation would not lead to any reduction in research expenditure, but would result in greater efficiency, better co-ordination in existing research programmes, and greater flexibility in organising programmes to meet future needs.
