WOOLSTON BRASS BAND
Members Urged To Attend Practices
The performance of the band must eventually suffer if a good attendance of members was not kept up, said the chairman of the committee (Mr A. Clemens) at the annual meeting of the Woolston Brass Band last evening. He was referring to members’ attendance at rehearsals of the senior band. The auxiliary band, which consisted of almost 35 members, and 12 learners, might be able to give further help to the senior band if there was a shortage of members, Mr Clemens said. Although one or two members of the senior band had resigned, mainly because of studies, the band was still in a very strong position with regard to members, said Mr T. J. Kirk-Burhnand. The general standard of the players in the senior band, since the contest in March, which might have been expected to fall away, had been very good, he said. “The selection of a new conductor for the band should be carefully considered, for a very good man is needed to fill this appointment, and the members should make sure the appointment is permanent,” said Mr KirkBurnnand, who is the temporary conductor for the senior band. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr J. L. Hay; president, Mr C. Hansen; band chairman, Mr D. Christensen; deputy-chair-man, Mr -A; Stent; treasurer, Mr D. Anderson; deputy-bandmaster, Mr D. Christensen; sergeant, Mr S. Creagh; corporal, Mr A. Stent; librarian, Mr T. Carroll (senior); committee, Messrs S. Creagh, A. Clemens, D. Christensen, R. Harris, and A. Stent. Cups were presented to Mr J. Rowe (Murray Cup, for senior bandsmen); and Messrs W. Wedlake and W. Chinnery (Barber Memorial Cup, for junior bandsmen). A presentation was made to Mr Christensen for the amount of work he had done for the auxiliary band.
