GEAR SCHEDULE

Use Of Shadow Blinds (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 15. Convincing evidence that the use of shadow blinds on horses should not be confined to flat races only, as was suggested, was brought before the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference today by Mr J. H. Grigg (Canterbury District Clubs, South). Mr Grigg produced a copy of an English racing publication with a front page photograph of the finish of the last English Grand National “Here is a photo of Meryman wearing a shadow blind and winning the Grand National by 15 lengths,” said Mr Grigg. Mr Grigg was able to tell the meeting of other recent Grand Nationals won by horses wearing shadow blinds. “We have certainly had overwhelming evidence that there is nothing wrong with jumpers wearing shadow blinds,” said Mr D. W. J. Gould (Canterbury Jockey Club). - Shadow blinds and other gear for horses and riders were dealt with in a gear schedule laying down minimum requirements tor equipment. The schedule was approved with very minor changes. It will not come into effect until August of next year.
