I Royal Musical Society.—Members and friends of the Royal j Christchurch Musical Society, i which will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary this year, were entertained recently at a film evening ' arranged by the women's auxiliary. The programme Included colour slides and films of an expedition to I Fiordland in search of the kakapo. They were presented by Mr W Dukes. Mr Peter Barton showed a series of slides of a recent visit to Britain. Diamond Harbour BalL—Two debutantes were presented to the patron of the Diamond Harbour ■ 300 Club (Mr H. H. Gardiner) arid Mrs Gardiner, at the club’s sixth annual ball, held recently. They were Miss Durelle Paine and Mita Gretchen Brown. Guests were received by Mr and Mrs H. H, Gardiner, assisted by Mr and Mrs F. S. Atkins. Catholic Women’s League—A talk on the dignity of motherhood was given to members of the homemakers* branch of the Catholic Women’s League recently by the Rev. John Cunneen. Min Edna Neville spoke to members about the many aspects of her work as “Aunt Hazel.” Mr J. Airey entertained with piano aceordion solos. Donation* Acknowledged.—The North Canterbury Hospital Board wishes to acknowledge with thanks donations from the following: The Patriotic Fund. Miss P. Ladd. Mr Derritt, British Sailors’ Society (magaxines); Tuberculosis Association social service committee (magazines and sweets); Rod Cress Society (fruit, sweets and bed-socks); Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild (cakes); Mrs H. F. - Evans, Linwood (bedjackets); Young Wives’ Club. Cashmere (drive for elderly folk); Methodist Club (cakes); and other anonymous gifts. Australia Club—-There was a large attendance of members and friends of the Australia Club at the club's annual dance held in Christchurch recently, and among the guests were many Australians at present visiting New Zealand. Mrs A. Dorrance entertained with musical items and there was a selection of novelty dances.
