GALA DINNER PARTY
Prelude To Medical Ball A gala dinner party for more than 140 guests was a gay prelude to the annual ball of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association at the Winter Garden in Christchurcß last evening. Posy bowls of scarlet anemones and pink heath trimmed with trails of ivy were a festive note of colour on the buffet tables. Around the sapphire room' were placed mixed bowls of perfumed stocks arid japonica blossom- ; More than twice the number of guests at the dinner party gathered for dancing later in the evening The ballroom was also decorated with flowers and' a feature of the scene were two large white floral urns filled with white arum lilies and stock.
The guests were received by the president of the ball committee (Mr Rex Blunden) and Mrs Blunden. Mrs Blunden wore a floor-length gown of midnight blue duchesse satin fashioned with a strapless, petalled bodice arid a bell-shaped skirt. The waistline was emphasised with a wide flat band of the same material. Members of the official party were:—Mr and Mrs Blunden, Mr and Mrs G. W. Holland (secretary), Dr. and Mrs D. R. Hay, Mr and Mrs K. Anderson, of Ashburton (representing the Dental Association). Dr. and Mrs W. J. Pryor, Mr and Mrs W. K. L. Dougall (representing the Law Society), Mr and Mrs R. J. Toon (Accountants’Association) and Mr and Mrs J; B. Collett (Chemists’ Service Guild).
