WINTER SINGLES COMPETITION

Eight Players To Take Part Tomorrow To give some of its leading play-' ers some singles competition between now and the beginning at the 1960-61 season,* the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association will begin a winter singles competition at Wilding Park tomorrow. The competition, on a round robin basis, will have eight players who will compete on alternate Sundays. The association invited various men to take part, and seven have entered—B. R. Crawford. E. L. Martin, R. Neumann, G. Moss. B. Judge. B. Johns, and B. Aldridge. To avoid a bye an eighth place will be taken by Canterbury’s leading woman player. Miss J. Davidson. The draw has been made out for the seven Sundays, and tomorrow Crawford will play Martin, Neumann will play Moss, Judge will meet Johns, and Aldridge Is drawn agalnat Miss Davidson. Johns will be a newcomer to Christehuteh -tennis. He moved to Ckiristrfnirch a few weeks ago from Wellington, but he is- a member of the 'family which has been prominent in Auckland play and administration for some years. G. L. Johns, a New Zealand championship player, is a brother. B. Johns has been an administrator in Wellington. Another participant. Crawford, has now returned to Christchurch after plartng for a few seasons in Timaru, where he was a leading member pf the South Canterbury representative team. Before he went to Timaru, Crawford was a member of the winning North Unwood senior men's teams, a Canterbury representative, and a keen tournament player.
