APPEAL FOR REFUGEES

Viscount Cobham Urges Support (Neub Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. ; The attention of the Governor'General (Lord Cobham), as its patron, had been drawn to the fact that the C.0.R.5.0. world refugee appeal in New Zealand Jhad not, as yet, met the target set for this year, said a statement issued from Government House. His Excellency, the statement said, very rarely appealed for money, but following the lead of Her Majesty the Queen> Prince Philip, and other members of the Royal Family, he felt it would be quite proper for him to draw the attention of the New Zealand public to this worldwide effort. “The target set for this year is £125,000. Perhaps this sounds a large amount, but if each person in our coYnmunity of 2,500,000 were to contribute 3d each the position would be inet. “The New Zealand contribution so far is at the rate of 2s Id a head, which is Is 3d behind that of the United Kingdom and a great deal less than that of Norway. which is 10s a head,” the statement said.
