GOLF Manawatu-Wanganui Wins Russell Grace Cup Section

CAMBRIDGE, June 30. Losing none of its matches, Manawatu-Wanganui z decisively won the North Island section of the Russell Grace Cup tournament, which-ended at Cambridge today. Final points were: ManawatuWanganui, 31J; Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay and Thames ValleyBay of Plenty,’24J; Waikato-King Country, 23J; Auckland, 23; Taranaki, 17; Wellington, 14£; Northland, 9£. Today, Manawatu-Wanganui beat Wellington, 5-1, and Northland, 6-0. Waikato-King Country, second when the final day’s play started, slipped to fourth, but to one of its top players, Mrs H. Mac Diarmid, went the honour of the best individual record of the tournament with six wins and a halved game. Mrs J. Mangan (Mana-whtu-Wanganui), with five wins and two halved games, from high in the order played a notable part in her team’s victory. The national champion, Miss Una Wickham,, of Tauranga, had six wins and a loss. Young players who did particularly well were Miss S. Chapman (Auckland), who lost only the first of her seven Miss S. Binning (Wanganui), who had five wins and a loss, and Miss Merryn Stubjxs, aged 19, of Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay, who played in top position). Manawatu - Wanganui will oppose Canterbury A, the South Island winner, in the national final at a venue yet to be decided. Results today were: Manawatu-Wanganui v.
