LIBEL COSTS APPEAL

No Statement By Mr Walsh (New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, June 30. The president of the Federation of Labour (Mr F. P. ' Walsh) tonight declined to say how much money had been received in response to the appeal among trade unionists for funds to defray the costs and damages awarded against him and others in a libel order brought by Mr A. J. Neary. When asked if he could say when a statement would be shown to bis members, Mr Walsh said this was of no Interest. Mr Neary won £2500 against Mi Walsh and £lO5O against seven other members of the Wellington Trades Council of which Mr Walsh is president. Mr Walsh told the annual conference of the Federation of Labour in May that the appeal had been over-subscribed. -
