Testing Fees Reduced

(Now Zealand Preu AMoeiatUm) WELLINGTON, June 21. Reductions from 3d to Is an animal, in the maximum fees for testing cows in the tuberculosis control schemes for dairy herds was announced today by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Skinner).

The new fees, for the testing period, September 1, 1960, to August 31, 1961, may be reviewed for the next period. The new scale of charges, with the past season’s in parentheses, is: Initial tests and replacement tests, Is 9d per animal (2s 9d per animal for the first 50, 2s 6d for the second 50, and 2s 3d for,the remainder of the herd); retests, Is 6d per animal (2s 3d per animal for the first 50, 2s for the second 50, and Is 9d for the remainder); minimum charge, 30s (unchanged); veterinarian’s mileage fees at 9d a mile are unchanged. Short thermal-testing fees are unchanged.

“The scheme for testing town supply herds has developed well since it began in 1956,’’ said Mr Skinner. "More than 70 per cent, of the herds supplying milk for human consumption are now under repetitive testing, and the disease has been eliminated or reduced to negligible proportions in most of these herds.”
