CIVIC THEATRE REPAIRS
Film Showing Again Tomorrow The Civic Theatre will be used tomorrow evening for the first time since May 1, a Sunday, whan fire damaged the stage and ths auditorium. Renovations and repainting are not quite completed, but the theatre is sufficiently back to normal to allow the Christchurch Film Society to have a public screening tomorrow. The newly-painted fire curtain, which saved the spread of ths fire, will probebly be used es ti»e screen far the films, as complete reptdrs have not been made to the stage. Two separate contracts werafet by the Qty Council for the restoraUon et tbe theatre. One was f ? r fire damage to the sta «e angrlraement areas; the other fdrlipainting of the auditorium. The work has included laying a new stage floor, constructing a new grid in the fly-tower, repairing the roof, and cleaning (town and repainting all surfaces. By next week the theatre is expected to be back to normal.
