He was discharged from gaol and four .months later was back for burglary and car conversion. He came out of gaol on March 15 of this year and seven days later was charged with some of the present offences.; He escaped from custody and subsequently a at large armed! with an air I. . t . _ Mr C. G. Ppttinger, for Bede, said Bede had grown up during war and revolution, - and the resulting unsettlement was more marked in him than in many others. Bede only knew of New Zealand through its prisons. Counsel said that when New Zealand accepted refugees of Bede’s age, there was a duty to ensure that they had- the oppor-
