Hoardings

Sir,—On May 26 you printed a letter from “Civis” in which attention was drawn to bus stop seat hoardings in the Cashmere area, and the possibility of these being extended to the whole of Christchurch. To date not one additional protest has been forthcoming. Are the residents of Cashmere completely blind to this unsightly encroachment on their lovely sylvan scene? Are Heathcote Council members entirely devoid of good taste in permitting this? “Civis” mentions the outcry of some years ago against hoardings, and a more recent instance on the West Coast road. A campaign is urgently required to stir the people out of their apparent indifference to the defacement of our city beautiful.—Yours. etC '' TOCSIN. June 14, 1960.
