Deodorant In New Nylons
Stockings with a deodorant make the latest fashion news for women. New Zealand manufacturers intend to have them on the market by August 16. This "sanitised” process on nylon stockings is colourless and odourless and is guaranteed to last through 30 washings according to makers. It is not an anti-per-spirant but instead, neutralises the acids of perspiration so that they do not rot the stocking fabric. The process has been in use in the United States for five years. From nylons it has spread to all hose, foundation garments, underwear, babies’ napkins, toys, etc. In New Zealand it will come to be used in mattresses, floor coverings and shoes as well in the near future. Though it will not cure infection it will certainly halt it and, in the case of stockings, will make for healthier feet. The deodorant is also a mouldrepcllant and was used during the last war to prevent soldiers’ uniforms and tents from becoming mildewed. Because of its additional sanitary qualities it was adopted by American nylon manufacturers as a new. sales notion. Dry cleaning will not remove it from the fabric. Particularly in warm weather, women find their feet perspire freely, perhaps because nylon stockings do not breathe. They
also find ladders usually start from the weakened soles and toes. With this latest “find” stockings are expected to last longer and, incidentally, provide greater protection against catching foot ailments when trying on shoes in the stores. ir
