FUTURE OF ORARI RACECOURSE

Necessity Of Improvements Racing and trotting meetings at Orari may have to be discontinued unless a substantial amount is spent on improvements at the racecourse. Oran’s future as a racing and trotting centre was discussed yesterday by committees of both dubs and the racecourse trustees. The course was Inspected by Mr H. B. Lorigan, a racing conference stipendiary steward, and Mr L. Butterfield, e trotting stipendiary steward. A new runway rail, a new luncheon goon end more horse stalls were mentioned as necessary improvements on the course. These and other works discussed yesterday could cost something like £20.000. The matter will now be discussed individually by the committees of the dubs. If the clubs are unable, or not prepared, to make a big outlay to bring Orari’s facilities up to standard they may hold their future meetings at Washdyke.
