TV STATION SITE

No Temporary Building The Government want to build Christchurch's television station on. a temporary basis in materials not complying with the city bylaws, After being reminded by its town planning committee last evening that the Government had previously erected temporary buildings, such as the Inland Revenue Department’s building in Worcester street and the Post and Telegraph's building in Durham street, and was still using them long after the original time limit, the council said no to the application.

The application was to build on vacant land on the east side of the present 3YA building in Gloucester street, the committee said. It was proposed that the 50ft by 25ft 6in building would be built in timber with corrugated asbestos roofing and asbestos wall cladding. “It is required for a short term only, probably not more than five years,’’ the report said.
