REV. G. G. HOWES

The death occurred In Greymouth recently of the Rev. George Gibson Howes, a minister of the Presbyterian Church. He was 81. Mr Howes was born in Dunedin and educated at Otpgo Boys* High School, where he won several scholarships. He gained his HA. degree at Otago University, and later attended Knox Theological College. His first charge was at Waikaka, in Southland, and be was later minister at Cust for 15 years. He was also moderator of the Oxford Church. Mr Howes was able to speak 14 languages, and took a keen interest in ioreign affairs. As a young man he was an athlete and had considerable success as a sprinter. Mr Howes’s wife died some years ago, and he is survived by one son and one daughter, both of Christchurch.
