BOOKINGS FOR OLYMPICS
73 From Province Going To Rome
Seventy-three persons in Canterbury have so far bought tickets for admission to the Olympic Games in Rome during August and September. Many for more than one event.
The tickets unsold from the New Zealand allocation have been returned, and any tickets now required will have to be obtained from Rome, through the New Zealand agency. The main problem at Rome will be accommodation. Many visitors are going on a shoestring budget, which excludes hotels and private board is now unobtainable.
Some New Zealanders are going direct to the Games, but the majority are making a holiday of the trip by touring the United Kingdom or the Continent first. Some will go to the Passion Play, held every 10 years at Oberammergau, in Bavaria, before going to the Games.
Two ships going to Italy in time for the Games are the Oronsay and the Neptunia, both leaving from Sydney. The former leaves on July 21 and arrives at Naples, the nearest 'port, 1 on August 15. The Neptunia leaves Sydney on July 20 and arrives in Naples on August 24. The Games officially start on August 25. Heavy bookings have been made for these two ships, 30 from Canterbury alone. Air services to Europe are also heavily booked at this time.
