N.Z. BOWHUNTERS’ SOCIETY
Record Bag Claimed For April
"The Press" Special Service HAMILTON, May 16. The April tally of game shot with arrows by members of the New Zealand Bowhunters* Society was the highest ever recorded for a single month. There were seven deer, two large boars, 12 goats, three opossums and a hare. Mr J. E. Barnes, of Masterton, shot one of the boars and the other fell to the bow of Mr B. Henwood, of Te Aroha, who was hunting on the society’s land near Lake Manapouri. Two stags and a hind were taken near Waikaremoana. The heads were of poor quality, although carrying eight points. The kills were made quickly with the famous American broadhead called a razorhead.
The society’s annual field archery tournament will be held on Te Aroha Mountain on the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Competition conditions will be as near to actual hunting as possible. It is expected that about 70 entries will be received from all over New Zealand
